HB 975 (Act 25) clarified the process for obtaining the continuing education credits necessary for PG licensure renewal in Pennsylvania. Specifically, Act 25 eliminated the need for pre-approval of continuing education (CE) courses. The law requires each licensee to obtain twenty - four Professional Development Hour (PDH) units during a biennial renewal period. The courses must meet the continuing education standard which states that the “course, workshop, conference, seminar, video course, college course or lecture, etc. maintains, improves or expands the skills, knowledge of a licensee's professional practice”. The Field Conference of Pennsylvania Geologists meets the criteria identified by the standard and because no pre-approval process is currently necessary the Field Conference of Pennsylvania Geologists will be offering CE credits for the 2010 Field Conference.

Although the board is not presently requiring course pre-approval it does maintain the final authority on course approval. The FCOPG maintains annual attendance records and will issue certificates verifying attendance and hours earned, but it is up to individual participants to keep a detailed log of activities used for earning credits.

Tenative Breakdown of available 2010 Professional Development Hours :
4.0 hours for Thursday Symposium
2.0 hours for Thursday evening orientation/map blast
5.0 Hours for Friday field trip
5.0 hours for Saturday field trip
Total of 16.0 hours available (Full conference participation)
2009 Professional Development Hours
Because the 2009 Field Conference occurred during the 10/1/2009-09/30/2011 biennial renewal period we will be offering Professional Development Hour (PDH) units for the conference. We are offering 15 PDH units if you attended the entire field conference. If you only attended a portion of the conference the breakdown of hours is as follows:
• Thursday night orientation – 1.5 PDH units
• Friday field trip – 7.0 PDH units (7:30-5:30 total field trip time, less two hours for travel and one hour for lunch)
• Saturday field trip – 6.5 PDH units (7:30 – 5:00 total field trip time, less two hours for travel and one hour for lunch)
FCOPG participants who attended the Weatherford Wireline Services pre-conference trip will receive an additional 2 PDH units. A separate certificate will be issued for pre-conference trip attendance.
If you attended the 2009 conference and would like to obtain a certificate of attendance please email Jaime Kostelnik requesting a copy of the certificate and indicating your level of participation. Certificates will only be sent to participants who request them and will be issued electronically prior to August 1 st , 2010.
